SYDNEY, Australia, Sep 20, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Australian Customs Service (Customs) has chosen Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR), to provide a passenger analysis system based on a data warehouse solution to enhance service and security at Australian border points.

Customs required a high-speed, stable solution and sophisticated analytics processes. The deal includes two NCR 5400 servers as the production system, two NCR 4980 servers for disaster recovery, a development node and a maintenance support service package over a five-year period. Teradata will work closely with EDS to implement the project.

The proposed solution is designed to process historical and continuous amounts of data, and conduct the complex analytics necessary to interpret the data and trigger immediate action. In addition to performance and flexibility, other features offered by Teradata include the ability to continually query while loading data to support real-time updates, the ability to search across any field and any record at any time, strong security, and minimal ongoing administration and support with 99.9 percent availability.
