Teradata Selected by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as Integrated Data Repository Platform; CMS Repository Expected to Grow to 180 Terabytes in Five Years

DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 2005--The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today announced the implementation of an Integrated Data Repository with the Teradata division of NCR Government Systems LLC, which is owned by NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR). CMS currently processes and retains the largest volume of health care-related data files in the world.

CMS information systems have a massive workload for data processing, analysis and dissemination. According to Wallace Fung, CMS chief technology officer, "The Medicare Modernization Act added new benefits to Medicare, and, along with the increases in Medicare claims, due in part to the aging of the baby boomer generation, we were rapidly outgrowing our current systems."

CMS currently collects over forty billion claims and other beneficiary records a year and maintains tables that contain billions of rows of data. Fung anticipates that the CMS Integrated Data Repository will grow to 180 terabytes in five years.

"CMS serves millions of Americans who rely on the accuracy and timeliness of their data and services," said Leslee Gault, president of NCR Government Systems LLC. "CMS is applying to government the best practices of the most successful companies in the commercial arena, many of which are Teradata customers. Our customer references helped CMS make its forward-looking decision and reinforced Teradata's industry leadership."
