Roundy's Selects NCR FastLane; Leading Grocery Wholesaler Places Order for Self-Checkout to Be Installed in Pick 'n Save and Rainbow Foods Supermarkets

August 13, 2003 at 10:01 AM EDT

ATLANTA, Aug 13, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) today announced that Roundy's, Inc., the nation's eighth largest grocery wholesaler with 800 stores serving 12 states, plans to install NCR's FastLane(TM) self-checkout solution in two of its supermarket chains.

Roundy's has ordered NCR FastLane for installation in three Pick 'n Save stores serving the Milwaukee area and in three locations of the company's recently acquired Rainbow Food Stores, serving the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Customer satisfaction increases when shoppers are offered different options at the checkout. According to a study conducted recently for NCR by premier global market intelligence and advisory firm IDC, nearly 80 percent of U.S. consumers said they would be likely or very likely to use self-checkout. More than 40 percent said they would be more likely to shop in a store that offered self-checkout than one that did not.

"NCR FastLane self-checkout is a value-driven service improving customer loyalty and enhancing the retailer's bottom line," said NCR FastLane Vice President and General Manager Mike Webster. "Roundy's dedication to their customers is evident by their decision to offer NCR FastLane as a convenient checkout alternative."

In addition to NCR FastLane, Roundy's currently uses NCR RealPOS(TM) terminals and NCR RealScan(TM) bar code scanners chainwide.
