ATLANTA, Mar 13, 2002 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --

New NCR RealPOS(TM) products include industry's first 1 GHz POS terminal

NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today unveiled new point-of-sale (POS) products designed to drive tomorrow's high- performance applications while meeting today's real-world needs of retailers for low-cost, rugged construction and investment protection.

The most recent additions to NCR's family of POS products include the NCR RealPOS 7456 -- the first POS terminal available with a 1 GHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processor -- as well as new high speed thermal printers and advanced multimedia displays.

The latest NCR RealPOS products are being introduced to retailers and other business executives from around the world at CeBIT 2002, the information technology and telecommunications trade fair in Hannover, Germany, March 13- 20.

POS performance and value

"The NCR RealPOS 7456 is a powerful, retail-hardened POS terminal that delivers exceptional performance, flexibility and value for demanding retail environments," said Bruce Donis, vice president and general manager, NCR RealPOS. "Simply put, we're delivering sports-car performance with family- sedan value."

With the ability to leverage Web-based and multimedia applications, the NCR RealPOS 7456 goes beyond being "only" a transaction device, offering an entry point into the enterprise and supporting features such as consumer advertising, stock location and inventory queries, and computer-based training for store associates.

The versatile NCR RealPOS 7456 supports a range of Intel Celeron(R) and Pentium III processors, and offers flexible configuration options to address a variety of software environments and price/performance levels. It also provides superior connectivity for retail, with a generous supply of powered USB and RS-232 peripheral connections, as well as support for the latest generation Digital Visual Interface (DVI) displays.

The NCR RealPOS 7456 features a compact cabinet that fits virtually any retail environment, even where counter space is at a premium. Moreover, ample expansion options are available so retailers can readily add memory, storage and other options as their businesses grow.

Like all NCR POS terminals, the NCR RealPOS 7456 supports a broad range of industry-standard operating system environments, including Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE, Windows 2000 Professional and, later this year, Windows XP and XPe. The platform also supports legacy DOS applications and is certified to run multiple distributions of Linux, providing retailers with maximum flexibility and long-term investment protection.

Quiet, fast thermal printing and multimedia displays

NCR's newest retail printers deliver whisper-quiet thermal receipt printing at 50 lines per second, providing shoppers a high-quality record of their transactions typically in a fraction of a second. In addition to the smallest footprints in their class, both printers are designed for easy paper replenishment and servicing - helping improve customer and employee satisfaction as well as store productivity.

The NCR RealPOS 7197 is a single-station model for retailers who need receipt-printing capabilities only. The NCR RealPOS 7167 can also imprint checks and other forms with a high-speed impact printing slip station.

New operator and customer interfaces have also been added to the NCR RealPOS family, including the new RealPOS 5964 Touch Screen, which features a high-brightness 12.1-inch color LCD with DVI interface. Designed for reliability, the NCR RealPOS 5964 has a sturdy remote or integrated mount to stand up to the constant "pounding" of real-world retail environments.
